On a perfect day and in front of a packed touchline Trafford MV managed to secure an excellent home win against Aldwinian’s in a crunch relegation battle.
The win saw Trafford move up 2 places and away from immediate danger but with 3 games to go there is still a lot to do to ensure safety.
After a tight opening 20 mins Aldwinians kicked a penalty to ignite the game 0-3. Trafford upped their forward game and from a line out on the left a good catch and drive saw Craig Collier get the touchdown and captain Pat Eccles converted to nudge TMV ahead 7-3.
The game was very tight and Aldwinians managed to slice through the MV defence to score under the posts and convert for a half-time 7-10 lead.
Heavy pressure came from Trafford to compensate for a yellow card for Craig Collier and this saw James Webster breach the visitors defensive line and slip a pass to Pat Eccles who scored and converted 14-10 as the lead was exchanged again.
Aldwinians responded as a loose kick from defence saw the ball run back at MV and a try in the left corner and a missed conversion making it 14-15. It looked as if Aldwinians were taking the advantage as they came again with a well handled try down the right, converted 14-22.
Trafford were not giving up on their task and a good attacking move saw Luke O’Shea hit a good line which saw his power and pace split the defence to score under posts Eccles converting 21-22. Were TMV going to be the despondent losers again – no not this time!.
As the game entered the final minute the under pressure Aldwinians defence conceded a penalty which Pat Eccles confidently put between the uprights to secure a much needed home win 24-22.
Trafford now head to Aspull on Saturday for another crucial game against fellow strugglers, but this time with confidence and an up beat attitude. League results were
