Emergency services swiftly responded along Washway Road in Sale during the Manchester Marathon, an unprecedented event marked by a fire engine maneuvering sharply at Eastway.
Thousands of runners took part in the 26.2 mile run with the Elite and good club runners long gone when sirens were heard, soon after the fire engine left the scene heading towards Altrincham an air ambulance was seen hovering what looked like the Carrington area.
Despite the interruptions the public turned out in force to support the runners on what was a nice day to spectate.
The first participants to grace the Marathon were the male Elite runners, gliding effortlessly as the rhythmic thud of their shoes on the pavement provided a comforting backdrop, keeping spirits high.
Even the runners trailing behind them, including the remarkable Women’s Elite athletes, exuded a sense of calm and composure, radiating an aura of confidence without a hint of tension or sweat. For the rest of the participants, many running for charity or striving for personal bests, this was more than just a race; it was a shared journey filled with inspiration and hope.
All runners this year had some great footwear, with Adidas and Nike brands the most popular, the max foam trainers worn made loads of noise however this cushioning is needed to get through the miles, a lower stack height would be better for a 10 or 5k run.
Some of the runners nearer the back were likely to be first timers and some struggled, if they all got to complete the marathon then if they compete again will have a time to beat, we suggest to rest in a big way, get some daily massage and have lots of carbs and electrolytes.
It can be quite distressing for newbies to experience a complete spasm; we understand how frightening that can be. However, there are ways to prevent it from occurring. Taking some time to relax in a warm bath for about an hour can really help you feel better. If you continue to experience discomfort, consider taking Ibuprofen after you’ve had something to eat—it might provide some relief.
The running does not stop in Trafford as the next big event next month will see the international stars turn out in the Great Manchester Run lets hope we have more good weather for that one which is normally shown live on the BBC.
The winner of the mens elite Adidas Manchester Marathon 2026 was Yohan Lidove in a personal best time of 2 hours 15 minuets and 19 seconds, second was William Strangeway in a time of 2 hours, 15 minuets and 42 seconds with Charlie Brisley in third recording a time of 2 hours, 16 minuets and 4 seconds.
In the women’s elite race Naomi Robinson won in a time of 2 hours 36 minuets and 56 seconds with Heather Townsend in second place in a time of 2 hours 37 minuets and 40 seconds, Louse Flynn came third in a time of 2 hours 44 minuets and 21 seconds.
