When Majid Ishaq watched his father struggle through rushed and inconsistent care at home after months in hospital, he knew something had to change.
That experience now sits at the heart of why the Manchester-born businessman is launching Visiting Angels in Sale – a team that cares for people in the comfort of their own homes. Shaped by his professional and personal experiences, Majid is determined to build a care service rooted in dignity, compassion and consistency for families across West Manchester.
Born and raised in Manchester, Majid spent much of his career in people-focused roles across retail, operations and finance. He led teams, supported staff and worked in demanding environments, but over time began to question whether his skills could be used in a way that felt more purposeful.
“I’d done well in my career and worked my way into senior roles, but something never quite sat right,” said Majid. “I kept asking myself what I was actually working towards. I wanted to build something that had real value for people – something I could feel proud of.”
That question took on new urgency when Majid’s father became seriously ill. After several months in hospital, he returned home needing multiple care visits each day. For Majid and his family, navigating care at home proved challenging, with little consistency and limited opportunity to build trust or connection with care workers.
“Seeing it first-hand changes everything,” explained Majid. “My dad had always been independent and active. Suddenly he was being moved through a system that didn’t seem designed around him as a person. When care lacks time and continuity, the impact goes far beyond the person receiving it – it affects the whole family. That stayed with me and it made me want to be part of a solution – to do things better.”
Visiting Angels’ ‘carer-centric’ approach sets it apart from other companies in the in-home care sector. Carers working for Visiting Angels feel valued and respected for their commitment to the industry. By offering financial rewards and avenues for career development, Majid is committed to addressing industry challenges that frequently leave caregivers feeling undervalued and underappreciated.
“I’ve seen what happens in workplaces where people feel undervalued – it never leads to good outcomes,” said Majid. “In care, how carers are treated directly shapes the experience of the person receiving support. When carers feel respected, that shows in the care they provide.”
Majid is launching Visiting Angels alongside his wife, Lubna, who will support the business on the administrative side. Lubna has a background as a paediatric nurse and now runs her own childcare business. Together, they are parents to two children, with a third on the way – an experience that has deepened Majid’s sense of responsibility, both at home and beyond.
That same sense of responsibility has long shaped his involvement in the wider Manchester community. Over the years, Majid has worked alongside local faith and community groups to support people experiencing homelessness, help provide food and everyday essentials and raise funds for those affected by conflict and crisis overseas.
It is this combination of family, community and lived experience that now informs what Majid wants Visiting Angels to become: a familiar and reassuring presence for families across West Manchester.
“Families often feel they have to accept whatever care is available,” explained Majid. “I want to show that it’s possible to expect – and receive – care that’s consistent, thoughtful and genuinely centred around the person. That’s the standard I want families across West Manchester to feel confident asking for.”
