People living with Parkinson’s in Trafford and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to try a new non-contact boxing programme which is aiming to help more local communities live well in summer.
Delivered by experienced coaches from Timperley Amateur Boxing Club, and supported by Parkinson’s UK, the new sessions will aim to help more people living locally with the condition to get active in a fun and social way.
Non-contact boxing can be a great way to start being active with Parkinson’s as it focuses on building balance, strength, coordination and fitness for all participants, as well as being a highly social and accessible activity.
No previous experience is required, all ages and abilities are welcome to take part and all the equipment is provided on site.
Participants are recommended to wear comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for being active. Refreshments are available, but it is advised to bring a bottle of water and any medication you might need on the day.
Relatives, friends and carers are also welcome to take part, or stay for a coffee and a catch-up during each session.
Helen Sturman, Area Development Manager at Parkinson’s UK, said:
“We are really excited to help launch this new non-contact boxing class. Staying active is vital for managing symptoms, and high intensity exercise like this offers significant health benefits for those with Parkinson’s.”
“These sessions provide a fun and welcoming social environment, where participants can enhance their coordination, strength, and balance. We invite everyone, including carers and friends, to join us and experience it firsthand.”
