Concerns grow due to the rise in the illicit use of the drug Ketamine in Trafford.

Ketamine which is a fast-acting, dissociative anesthetic and hallucinogen used in human and veterinary medicine is being used illicitly.

The class B drug is being used by kids as young as 12, the user would snort it or consume the drug, sometimes injecting it which would see the effects hit faster.

Once in the system it will bring about a sense of euphoria, floating, altered senses, and visual or auditory hallucinations, and at high doses can induce a profound state of dissociation which basically means they are in outer space!

Ketamine disrupts the neurotransmitter glutamate. It’s involved with learning, memory, emotion, and pain recognition. It can exhibit sympathomimetic activity which can lead to rapid heart rate and elevated blood pressure.

The rise in kids taking this drug is mostly down to cost and widespread availability, it’s unknown about if any of these young people understand the side effects of using it and what it does to the body.

Ketamine is well known to cause bladder issues, anxiety, heart issues and even death, the drug used illicitly with other stimulants like Caffeine is a recipe for disaster as is mixing Cannabis with Ketamine which increases toxicity in the body.

Kids and Adults taking this drug regularly will start to have issues with the bladder, these issues continue even when someone finds a way to quit the drug, users have told the embarrassing story of the pee leakages.

The kidneys get the hardest hit once on this drug, they shrink in size and end up looking something similar to a prune! the problem is do young people even understand that the kidneys once damaged are damaged for life, continuing use will mean pain like you have never had before and on a daily basis even with strong pain killers.

Trafford is seeing more anti-social behaviour and is likely due to drug use and peer pressures.

if you suspect your child is on any drug you must tell the GP as soon as possible to get the child checked out and find support.
