Due to the intense heat and humidity everyone should take action to keep themselves protected and hydrated.

The temperature in Manchester will reach 33/34c during midweek which is 91 degrees, if you are outdoors make sure you have sun protection on and if available wear high UV clothing which will help stop any skin issues.

Anyone running or cycling must have with them a bottle of water or some other product and some money just in case you need more, try getting into the shade.

For many of us who do not have air conditioning a cheap way of cooling a room is to simply get a desk fan facing a big bottle of ice or freezing cold water making sure you do not put the bottle anywhere near electric equipment and add a towel underneath to soak up water  coming from outside the bottle.

This will reduce the rooms temperature to an acceptable standard so long as the water is frozen cold, once you see it melting take away and refill the bottle for the next day, keep the fan after on so its continuing blowing cold air that has already been circulated.

During this hot weather it might be that some kids or even adults want to jump into the waterways to cool off, this is understandable but also could be a big mistake, water temperatures are very cold even when its 91 degrees outside of the water!

We have all seen the reports of people getting into difficulties having jumped in a canal or river and so let that be what stops people from going in the water, cold water shock can hit even the most strongest of swimmer.

Also a fast flowing current is stronger than many people think! this is often how people get into difficulty more so in deep water.

Keep your pets out of cars and vans! make sure they are fully hydrated throughout this period of intense heat, they cannot cool down like humans can, be wary also of how hot the ground is when taking the dog for a walk, going in the garden if you have one would be a good idea.

If you see a dog in a car or van even with the window slightly down in a shopping car park and no owner around you must call 999 immediately, it is an offence to keep a dog in a car or van.
