Manchester United have overcome the ‘Freightliner’ hurdle and bought land North West of the current Old Trafford stadium.
The club announced the deal on its website with Blackstone Portfolio and the club said they are engaging with firms that are impacted by the plans and to help them through the transition period.
Once completed bulldozers will come in and level everything, United will have to do an application to develop on the land this could take a while and then even longer for it to be seen by Trafford Planning.
The newly designed stadium will not have a canopy however it is thought the new 100,000 capacity stadium will be like a modern football stadium an electronic score board that wraps around the stadium much like to San DIego Chargers SoFi Stadium.
Fans though are seemingly unhappy at the prospect of leaving Old Trafford and having to walk further, however once they see the new stadium it will be worth the walk.
More details on the new designed stadium and potential estimated construction dates along with what happens to the former home will be released next month.
Collette Roche, CEO, Manchester United’s New Stadium Development, said: “Today’s news highlights the progress we’re making towards a world-class new home for Manchester United and represents a significant milestone as we move into the next phase of development.
“Being able to build so close to Old Trafford allows us to preserve the heritage, traditions and rituals that are so important to our fans. We are committed to building a world-class stadium with our supporters, not just for them, with atmosphere, affordability and accessibility at the heart of our thinking.
“This is a generational opportunity that is fully aligned with both local and national growth ambitions. Securing the right land for our new home has been absolutely critical, and the land we’ve acquired gives us the stage to deliver a truly world-class stadium that honours our past and is ready for our future.”
