Man from Sale fined after fly-tipping furniture in Wooded area

Trafford Council Environmental Improvement Team installed CCTV cameras on Banky Lane in Sale following a number of fly-tipping incidents in the area.

In one incident on 2 June 2025 the cameras captured a man drive his white van into the car park of Banky Lane and dumped a large amount of furniture into a wooded area.

CCTV cameras caught the entire incident taking place which according to the council was crystal clear.

The man named as Steven Warren (42) from Sale was later traced as the owner of the van from his licence plate and the council contacted him and invited him in for an interview under caution.

Mr Warren of Asscot Avenue, Sale pleaded guilty to fly-tipping at Manchester Magistrates Court on 21 July 2026 he was then fined £320 with a further £128 victim surcharge and £115 court costs

Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways and Environmental Services, said:

“There is no reason to fly-tip waste and we will use whatever powers are available to use to trace people who blight our neighbourhoods by illegally dumping waste, and take action against them.

Banky Lane is a leafy road leading to the popular Banky Meadow and residents and visitors should not be subjected to seeing dumped waste becoming a blot on the landscape.

“We have two household recycling centres that people can use for free to get rid of unwanted Items.

“If your waste is business-related, you must dispose of it responsibly and you can find out more on our commercial waste webpages. There is no excuse to dump waste, and we will crackdown on anyone who does so.”
