Many people will have heard about data centres but unaware of exactly where they are and what damage they are doing to the environment and to the quality of peoples lives all in the name of AI (Articial Intellegence)
Data centres take up lots of electricity and water supply, some of them end up being built on green belt land and where near residential areas cause environmental issues such as 24/7 buzzing noises and smells that are described as toxic.
Trafford currently has 6 data centres with 5 located in Trafford Park and the other one at Move Urmston, two more are planned for Trafford with the biggest being in Carrington.
The Carrington data centre is believed to be one of the biggest in Europe and is set to bring in billions of pounds to the government and provide many local job opportunities.
From what we know so far is the deal has already been done between Eclipse Power Optimise and Cartlton Power signing a joint development agreement in 2025 under the name Future Point Manchester.
The infrastructure to power the data centre is already in place and once approved it won’t take long before its built and fully operational.
The only hurdle this gigantic data centre has is it needs to be seen by Trafford Planning Committee which could see public objections however due to the amount of money the government will make and the jobs created it will be incredibly hard for Trafford to refuse, it also will be away from residential property.
Whilst the Future Point Manchester website is confusing we have digged deeper and found the deal has already been done and it’s now only a matter of time before Carrington has a data centre bigger than everything else around it, with an increase in construction traffic and later extra traffic for over 1,500 workers this will have a bad knock on effect for Partington residents.
