Oakfield Fashion Week: Sale care home hosted its very own fashion show

Move over, London Fashion Week – this Sale care home hosted its very own fashion show.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Oakfield Croft, on Oakfield, walked the runway and strutted their stuff on the red carpet. 

The ‘Oakfield Croft Fashion Week’ was organised to give everyone an opportunity to express their love for fashion.

In total, three residents and eight team members took to the runway, modelling glamorous hats, neck scarves and furry jackets. 

Resident Brigid O’Hagan, 91, said: “Having a custom-made dress and walking down the red carpet made her feel very happy and like a supermodel. Every time I dress up, it brings back memories of when I went out and had a good time.”

In the lead-up to the event, residents worked with a local designer Estelle Griffiths to design tailored outfits for everyone to wear.

Roxanne Walsh, Home Manager at Oakfield Croft, said: “We had a fantastic time hosting our very own ‘Oakfield Croft Fashion Week’ – and it was great to discover how talented residents and team members were when it comes to the catwalk!

“We are always looking for new and exciting ways to encourage residents to reminisce about their careers and interests close to them. Many have a keen interest in fashion, so we pulled out all the stops to give them a real modelling experience – red carpet included. 

“Everyone had such a wonderful day strutting their stuff and talking about iconic fashion looks through the years. We’re already looking forward to our next event!”

Oakfield Croft provides residential, dementia and short-term respite care, and has been rated ‘good’ in all five areas by the

Care Quality Commission. The home is designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, and incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The building boasts facilities such as a cinema, café and hair and beauty salon.
