Mobile phone operator O2 will be switching off its network in the Brooklands area of Sale on 16/10/26 from 8am until 8pm. This also means Giff Gaff and Tesco Mobile customers will be affected.
Whilst the network does not say exactly what is going on we believe they are upgrading its 5G service which should see the signal and data speeds improve both inside and out, with several masts in the area and in other parts surrounding Brooklands the signal should be excellent once the work has been concluded.
O2 and its MVNO’s who piggy back of the O2 signal in Brooklands and in other areas of Sale are in need of improvement, looking at the network coverage maps we can see many parts where the signal is not as it should and this is why the improvements are needed.
We have also read by Giff Gaff who use O2 signal will be switching off its 2g service and it’s expected all networks will follow either before or after which will mean the UK will be left with 4G and 5G services until 6G comes along which will likely be around 2030/31 before it comes to the UK and the roll out will be a good couple of years after that.
Despite the network being down for a time tomorrow (16 October) calls to emergency services are not affected.
