An independent practice in Altrincham has been nominated for the titles of three prestigious national awards as part of the 2026 Optician Awards.
The Opticians Awards aim to recognise and reward excellence within the optical industry, covering all practice settings, professional roles, products, and specialisms. Winners are chosen by a panel of experts who are passionate about the profession and committed to advancing the optical industry.
Amongst the shortlisted nominees are Maskell + Josephson Optometrists, an independent practice in the heart of Altrincham. The team have been shortlisted for three awards in total, including the titles of ‘Contact Lens Practice of the Year’ and ‘Fashion Practice of the Year’ and an individual nomination for optometrist and director, Anthony Josephson, in the ‘Optometrist of the Year’ category.
Established in 1983 by Ross Maskell, the practice has since grown into a multi-award winning and widely respected part of the community, offering high standards of care using an extensive range of technology and expertise.
Maskell + Josephson’s nominations for ‘Contact Lens Practice of the Year’ and ‘Fashion Practice of the Year’ reflect the team’s dedication to going above and beyond for their patients and the local community, offering additional services such as dry eye clinics, complex contact lens clinics, and frame styling consultations to allow patients who visit to be cared for in every aspect of their eye care.
Director and optometrist, Anthony Josephson, commented on the practice’s recognition, saying: “We’re incredibly honoured to be in the running for these awards and considered amongst the top practices in the UK for what we do.
“It’s a true testament to our committed team’s dedication to providing exceptional eye care and a personalised service to each and every patient in our community.”
Anthony joined the Maskell + Josephson team in 2013 and became director at the practice upon Ross Maskell’s retirement in 2017. During his time in practice, Anthony has pushed the practice forward and developed specialist areas such as myopia management and dry eye clinics, as well as gaining additional qualifications including Independent Prescribing, allowing for a more extensive level of care in practice.
On being nominated for ‘Optometrist of the Year’, Anthony commented: “It means a great deal to be recognised for work that I’m genuinely passionate about. Caring for patients, supporting my colleagues, and maintaining longer-term goals of improving eye care services across Altrincham and beyond are always my main priority at Maskell + Josephson, and I’m excited to continue this work moving forward.”
The winners of the Optician Awards will be announced at the upcoming awards ceremony in London on 11th December.
