Police have launched an investigation after shots were fired in Old Trafford.

Officers were called just before midnight on February 1 to reports of a group of men fighting at a social club on Alphonsus Street in Old Trafford.

On arrival they found a firearm and a number of bullets were recovered near to the fire exit door of the club.

No one was injured and esquires are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parker, from GMP’s Trafford borough said: “We are treating this as a serious incident and have therefore increased patrols in the area, so you will see extra officers out and about.

“We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.

“If you have any concerns, or suspect something suspicious, then please approach one of our officers or call police, we will always try to assist in any way we can.”
