A Tesco store that has been in the Stretford Mall for decades is to close.
Trafford Labour councillor Tom Ross said in a tweet “Very disappointed @Tesco have decided to shut their store in Stretford Mall will prove an unpopular decision locally, please reconsider.”
Tesco Regional Director North and Northern Ireland, Jonathan Taylor said, “We have announced to colleagues that we have taken the difficult decision to close our Stretford Mall Metro store in early December 2017. Our priority now is to explain what this announcement means for our colleagues and wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with Tesco.
“We would like to thank all our customers who have shopped in our store and we will continue to do our best to serve them through our Extra on Chester Road.”
Tesco also told us that the store saw declining sales over many years and so the turnover was poor, we did not take this decision lightly, but are grateful to customers who used the store for the many years it operated.
The store will close later this year with a potential loss of over 70 jobs.
