Jana Novotna died yesterday Nov 19 aged 49 in her native Czech Republic, the 5ft 9ins serve and volley player managed to win 24 WTA titles and 2 ITF in a career that lasted 14-years before she retired in 1999.
She also won 100 titles which included 24 in singles and 76 in doubles, her highest singles rank was number 2 which was in 1997, and she got to number 1 ranking in the doubles.
Novotna was also inducted into the ‘International tennis hall of fame’ in 2005, after she retired in 1999, she had two years as a commentator for the BBC, she continued to play doubles, once with Martina Navratilova in an invitational draw at Wimbledon in 2010.
Jana Novotna died from cancer.
