The River Mersey in Trafford is the most polluted river in the world according to geo-scientists from the University of Manchester.
They found more plastic in this river than any other, with 75,000 plastic particles, runner up was 72,000 plastic particles in a river in Korea.
Plastic is a serious problem in our oceans, and now we know it is also a serious problem in our rivers, and likely our canals.
Trafford has higher levels of air pollution than many other big cities in Europe and now sadly we win the award for most polluted river, it is a complete disgrace that we are in this position, and we call on the council and the Environment Agency to get this sorted out as soon as they possibly can.
To fix the worlds oceans will be hard to do for governments of the world, we can though do something about cleaning our rivers and canals here in Manchester.
