Confidence is sky high as Trafford’s rowers keep winning

Amid the glorious surroundings at Trentham rowing club, Trafford continued their incredible start to the summer season with a third Victor Ludorum (best club) at the Trentham regatta for their junior squad netting £500 for the club in the process. This follows victory at Lancaster and Northwich in the last few weeks.

The race format was a 750m straight race to the finish along Trentham Lake with Monkey Forest on one side of the lake and Trentham Gardens on the other side. With the promise of a £500 prize for the best junior club Trafford took the opportunity with both hands with many of the crews racing across multiple races to maximise the potential of victory.

The Victor Ludorum was a points based system with 2 points for 1st and 1 point for a second place finish and Trafford ended up dominating the competition with a total of 18 points with Derwent RC coming second with 11 points and Burton Leander third with 7 points.

There were some great races throughout the day with the women’s four winning their race (although it didn’t count in the points system which was for juniors).

J14 Chandraj won his first competitive race and J15 Orlando raced his first ever competition. Alongside these were great performances across all crews from J12 to J18 with all age groups contributing points to the overall victory.

With the Victor Ludorum already won, late in the day there was time for some healthy inter-squad competition with 6 of the j15s forming three mixed doubles and with no competition from other clubs it was all about the bragging rights. In one of the closest races of the day Albert and Katie just held off a late charge from Myles and Ellie by the narrowest of margins with Max and Dani not far behind, all supported by ‘Camp Trafford’ on the bank who are getting the reputation of the loudest supporters on the circuit!

Trafford will be hoping to take their great form through June where they will be competing at Chester, York and Ironbridge.

Simon Reeves, Chairman of Trafford Rowing Club said, ‘I couldn’t be prouder of the juniors. Their performances today have been fantastic and show how the hard work they and their coaches are putting in is paying off.’
