A cyclist was given a ticket for being on the motorway earlier on today, GMP Traffic tweeted the picture and some details about the incident that we agree was very dangerous to all using that stretch of motorway at Eccles.

The cyclists route was from the M602 to the M60 and M62 according to police, and we think was cycling in between the hard shoulder and in one lane of the motorway.

As police stopped the cyclist some minor delays occurred.

Cycling on the motorway is against the law, it is also extremely dangerous although we agree the surface is much better.

One twitter user @andyplowright summed it all up in one tweet when he said “Probably safer there than on many City Centre roads, but hanging a bag from the handlebar deserve a ticket itself”

Some of the other tweets we agreed with, one user saying it will be quicker on the motorway using a push bike.

Either way cycling will never be allowed on the motorway network and for very good and obvious reasons.
