The owners of House of Fraser is closing several of its stores around the UK in a cost cutting exercise that will mean thousands of people out of work.

Sadly one of those stores for the chop is the one in Altrincham, based at the Stamford Quarter it has been there for many years.

It does not help Altrincham town centre after a revival in its fortunes of late and being named as the best place to visit, a shop of this magnitude leaving is a bit of a downer.

Many would hope the soon to be vacant building will be filled once more with a big named high street brand, maybe a sports shop that can compete with Sports Direct or maybe even a Go Outdoors which would be very popular might be interested.
