Police appeal for witnesses to a collison between a cyclist and a waste collection truck in Manchester City Centre

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision involving a cyclist and a waste collection truck in Manchester city centre.

The collision is believed to have happened shortly before 10:35pm on Thursday 23 August 2018 at the junction of Oxford Road and Hulme Street.

The cyclist, a 20-year-old woman, remains in hospital being treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the waste collection truck remained at the scene and has spoken with police to assist with enquiries.

Police Constable Anthony Pye, of GMP’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision, particularly if they have dashcam footage of the incident.

“Although the collision happened late in the evening, Oxford Road is a busy area so we believe there may have been a number of potential witnesses who can assist us with our enquiries.”

Anybody with information should contact the GMP Roads Policing Unit on 0161 856 3995, quoting incident number 2193 of 23 August 2018, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
