Greater Manchester Police are treating the knife attack on three people on New Years Eve at Manchester Victoria Station as a terror related incident.
The incident happened tonight (Dec 31) at just before 9pm where two members of the public were knifed by the man, the man and woman both in their 50’s was taken to hospital with severe injuries although not thought to be life threatening.
A British Transport Police officer also was knifed in the shoulder and was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and is in custody.
It is though that the incident happened near to a Metrolink stop within the station.
Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, said: “Tonight’s events will have understandably worried people but I need to stress the incident is not ongoing, a man is in custody and there is no intelligence to suggest that there is any wider threat at this time.
“While we don’t yet know the full circumstances and are keeping an open mind, officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West are leading on the investigation.
“This is to ensure that we have all the expertise available to us and progress the investigation as soon as possible.
“There will be closures in place at the station for some time and officers will be in the area throughout the night.”
