At around 7.35pm yesterday (Thursday 10 December 2019), police were called to reports of a collision involving a Grey Honda CRV, a blue VW Golf MK 7 and a pedestrian.

Police attended and the pedestrian, a woman believed to be in her 30’s, sadly died at the scene.

Closures were in place on Simonsway and junction 4 while investigation work was carried out but these have since been lifted.

Police Constable Martin Davies, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident where a woman has lost her life and we are doing everything we can to piece together what happened.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed her approach the carriageway or the Simonsway Bridge over the M56, as well as people with dash cam footage.

“I’d also appeal directly to the driver of the blue Golf who failed to stop at the scene – please get in touch with officers as a matter of urgency. We know that there will be significant damage to this car and would ask anyone with information, no matter how big or small they think it may be, to please come forward.”

Anyone with information should call GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 1765 of 10 January 2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
