Electric North West are trying to restore power to Irlam after the area suffered a power cut this afternoon

A big powercut hits Irlam in Salford this afternoon (July 4th)

Electricity North West are currently trying to restore power to people in the M44 postcode area.

The electric went off jut after 1pm this afternoon (July 4th) and is expected to be restored by 11pm this evening, although some homes may get their electric back quicker than others.

We are not yet sure what the problem was and will update this article when we know more.

In the event of a power cut as big as this, remember to check on freezers and fridges as they will start to thaw out and potentially cause some damage to the property, check on vulnerable people.
