Police appeal for information after 6 armed men robbed Selfridges in Exchange Square

Police are appealing for information after a burglary at a department store in Manchester City Centre.

At around 11.30pm on Thursday 4 July 2019, officers received reports that six men in possession of weapons had broken into Selfridges in Exchange Square.

The offenders targeted the Louis Vuitton department where they stole items including clothing and accessories before leaving on mopeds.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and handling stolen property. He remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Stephen Wiggins, from GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “We understand the offenders were all wearing balaclavas and grey tracksuit bottoms and tops. They fled prior to officers arriving at the store.

“I would like to thank members of the public who contacted police last night. We now have a team of detectives working to piece together the circumstances surrounding this crime and we are also working closely with the management of the company.

“If you saw men matching the description, who were acting suspiciously in the area, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
