A fly tipper was fined after he dumped a pile of rubbish in a car park in Old Trafford.
He was feeling so guilty after dumping the rubbish he came back to clean it up after a letter from the council was sent to the man.
Manchester Magistrates were told how James Paul Agboola was caught on CCTV dumping bags of waste at the Empress Street Car Park in Old Trafford on 4th January, 2019.
Mr Agboola, aged 43, of Manchester Street, Old Trafford, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping at Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was given a 12 month conditional discharge and told to pay £400 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Following the case, Trafford Council reassured residents that officers would continue to target fly-tippers in the borough.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality and Climate Change, said: “This man drove to a public car park and dumped a huge pile of rubbish onto the floor. After realising he had been caught, he returned to clear up. We will not accept this kind of behaviour and will continue to target fly-tippers in the borough.
“The fly-tipper in this case was filmed carrying out this environmental crime on Trafford Council CCTV cameras. Anyone planning on doing the same thing should remember that our CCTV operatives will be watching closely. If you are caught, you will be prosecuted – it’s as simple as that. We will do everything in our power to ensure the borough is as green and litter-free as possible.”
