Trafford MV go in to a new season with confidence after a strong pre-season

Trafford MVs pre-season has been built around introducing new players and expanding the playing strength of the 1st XV squad.

Results were a secondary consideration, although a win would have been nice against either Eccles or Leigh.

Last weekends game at Leigh was very competitive and a solid first half in which MV led the way was indicative of what the team may be able to do in the coming season. Strong performances from Danny Burke and from James Matthie on the wing gave MV hope and good directional play from skipper Pat Eccles kept the game plan alive however an experienced Leigh XV proved to have too strong for MV on the day.

MV now look forward to a Lancashire Cup 1st Round tie away at Southport on Aug 31st with MV looking forward to the end of the holiday season and players coming back into contention.

MV will be taking a coach of supporters to the game and will be calling on all players to make themselves available and put in a big performance on the day day. With a few gaps in the League season a good cup run would be good for consistency of performance and also for club finances if a home run is achieved.

Training numbers are very good on Tues / Thurs evenings (6.45pm) and MV are very keen to find new young local rugby talent looking for recognition in a local club side.

Many of today’s young players are falling out of the game after being edged out off local clubs by semi-pro players or the player development pathways of senior clubs. MV are keen to provide the platform for players to explore their game and prove themselves at local club 1st XV level before venturing into senior level rugby.

Mini / Junior Rugby resumes at Trafford MV on Sunday Sept 1st at 10.30am when all young boys and girls from 4 years upwards are invited to come and find out what being part of a friendly Rugby Club is all about.

Fun, friendship and fitness are just a part of the rugby clubs aim and a dedicated team of volunteers provide a solid, well organised framework to give the children the basics of the sport. Rugby will get a huge profile boost over the next few months with the coverage of the Rugby World Cup in Japan on the TV and other media.

Trafford MV have announced the date for their annual Hoptoberfest Beer Festival as Sat Oct 19th as great cask ales, superb food and marvellous music are on the cards to produce a lively day for the local community.

We will have more information on ‘Hoptoberfest’ nearer the time.
