The captain of a helicopter ‘type’ aircraft declared an emergency over Trafford and Salford this afternoon Sept 8.
Squawking 7700 the universal flight code for an air emergency, the helicopter was trying to land at City Airport Manchester when it got into difficuties.
It circled the airport drifting into the Trafford area for a time before landing safely with a fire truck and another vehicle in attendance.
We saw the aircraft come in live and could see it had some damage to its rotor blades, although we cannot at this time confirm what the issue was.
Looking at Flight Radar 24 it looked like the captain ditched his aircraft in a field somewhere in the Urmston area.
