Trafford Leisure launches school competition to design ‘Clip and Climb’ climbing wall for Urmston Leisure Centre.
Trafford Leisure is running an exciting competition for children to design the new ‘Clip and Climb’ climbing wall that will be built at Urmston Leisure Centre.
Urmston Leisure Centre is currently being totally overhauled, extended and extensively refurbished to include a large fitness suite, a new café, modern changing facilities, a glass façade with a clip and climb wall, new exercise studios and a sensory room. The £7.2 million pound redevelopment is due for completion early 2020, and is part of Trafford Council’s overarching plans for leisure improvements across the entire borough.
The competition will be judged by the Leader of Trafford Council, Councillor Andrew Western, and the winning design will be built ready for the public to use early next year. In addition, the winner and their school class will be Trafford Leisure’s special VIP guests at the opening launch day and will be the first to climb the wall.
The competition, organised in conjunction with Trafford Council and local Trafford schools, is open to all children and young people in the Trafford community.
The closing date for entries is the 11th October 2019. School children will receive details about the competition directly from their school. Alternatively you can access the entry form and further information with examples of existing clip and climb walls for inspiration on Trafford Leisure’s website
Jo Cherrett, Chief Operating Officer, Trafford Leisure says: “We are so excited about the new look Urmston Leisure Centre and I can’t wait for the community to experience the fantastic new facilities. I’ve had a go on a clip and climb wall with my six year old son. He zipped up the wall much quicker than me, but we both really enjoyed trying something new together. I’m really looking forward to
seeing all the creative designs that are submitted for this competition. Any colour, any style, if you can draw it we can build it!
“Climbing up a Clip and Climb wall is a wonderful form of exercise that’s fun for the whole family to try. It’s a great way to put into practice the Chief Medical Officer’s recent Physical Activity Guidelines that children aged 5-18 should try to do 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.
“It’s not long until we open the doors to the new Urmston Leisure Centre, and I am thrilled to be able to offer a brand new activity with our clip and climb wall!”
Cllr Andrew Western, Leader of Trafford Council, says: “The health and wellbeing of all of our residents is of vital importance to Trafford Council. The new clip and climb wall is a fantastic addition to the centre and we are delighted to be offering a young person the opportunity to come up with the final design.
“As a judge in the competition, I am really looking forward to seeing the designs and even more excited to be helping choose a winner. Thanks and good luck to everyone taking part.”
