The aircraft took off from runway 23L during early evening on September 19th and got to around 2,500ft when a very loud bang was heard coming from the aircraft, some observers on the ground reported hearing a loud bang and streaks of fire coming from an engine.

This forced the captain to stop the climb (and shut down the damaged engine) out of Manchester and asked Air Traffic Control that he wished to return back, the crew held for a while until all checks were completed and landed safely on runway 23R.

No emergency was declared and no one was injured, passengers and crew had to wait around 5 hours for a replacement aircraft.
