Trafford MV were feeling confident of a home win before the game against Ormskirk on Saturday Oct 12.
New to the division Ormskirk arrived at MacPherson Park in very good conditions and they were soon testing Trafford as they launched early attacks and found themselves ahead early in the game 0-5 then quickly followed by a penalty so the score was now 0-8.
MV came back strong with a penalty from Pat Eccles to keep in touch the score now 3-8, but the visiting team were running hard in the forwards and carrying and looking after the ball well as MV were put on the back foot and regular incursions into the MV brought scoring opportunities.
Consistent pressure forced another score from Ormskirk with a converted try taking the lead to 3-15. Eccles kicked a second penalty for MV to keep their hopes alive but despite some determined work from Burke and Clegg MV looked to be under real pressure.
The second half brought no relief for MV as Ormskirk opened with a penalty and then worked hard for two good tries taking a healthy 6-28 lead and leaving MV with a big job on their hands.
MV captain Pat Eccles strived to keep hopes alive as he sneaked in from close range converting his try to pull back at 13-28. Ormskirk chose to kick a late penalty in the closing minutes to seal a well deserved 13 -31 win.
This weekend Trafford MV are away to Aldwinians in the ADM League Cup whilst at home, MV’s 2nd XV will play Duckinfield in front of the Hoptoberfest Beer Festival crowds with a 3.00 pm kick-off
