Des O’Conner on Countdown

The entertainer Des O’Connor has died aged 88

O.Conner was born in East London in 1932 he had one brother and a sister, his mum was apparently Jewish.

He entered national service with the RAF when he was old enough, he also became a red coat at Butlins which is where he met a woman called Phyllis who he then married.

Des O’Connor’s Tv career started in 1963 when he hosted The Des O’Conner Show, this ran until 1971, he was the host of many other chat shows and hosted Countdown from 2007 until 2009.

His work in theatre was extensive playing at all the well known theatres around the world, he was also a singer making many albums.

He sadly passed away in hospital after a fall at his Buckinghamshire home.
