Tributes have been paid to Derek and Margaret Firth both 91-years-old from Partington who died together from Covid at Trafford General Hospital.
They had been married for 70 years, originally Derek had been in Wythenshawe Hospital and Margaret in Trafford General however staff realised that Margaret may not make it and brought Derek to Trafford to be with his wife for the last moments.
The heartbreaking moments shown in the picture shows them both holding each other, Derek died on January 31 and shortly after Margaret died.
Derek and Margaret were sweethearts from the age of 14 and both were married in 1950, both spent most of their lives in Partington, Margaret worked as a cleaner at Broadoak School and Derek was a butcher then finished up working as a storeman.
They had 5 kids and later on having 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
According to other media both went into hospital with other conditions however died of Covid, many people have died after getting Covid whilst in hospital, a place where we should all be safe, seemingly this is not the case for many of our elderly people.
We pay our respects to Derek and Margaret and send our condolences to famiy and friends and to the wider community in Partington who will have known them, this is a real heartbreaking moment for all of us.
Funeral arrangements are not known at this time.
