Urmston’s Wayne Devlin is going to be performing songs from the Great American Songbook in a 24 hour long ‘Swing-a-thon’ to raise funds for Alzheimers Society who have been deeply affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Wayne said. “I read about my musical hero Tony Bennett being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and how music really helps him. Living with Alzheimer’s is a 24 hour a day condition so I want to pay respect to Tony Bennett and all those living with Alzheimer’s by singing for a full 24 hours to hopefully raise as much money as I possibly can for the charity.
“The Alzheimer’s Society has been seriously affected by COVID-19 in their fundraising and in the day to day running of the charity. Those living with Alzheimer’s, their families and those in care homes have also been severely affected. I hope to raise funds to help alleviate even just a small amount of that pressure and I’m humbly asking News4Trafford readers to get behind this 24 hour ‘Swing-a-thon'”.
“I will be putting updates on my community website www.allabouttrafford.co.uk and my personal website www.waynedevlin.com as we get closer to the date. I will also be live streaming the event so you can follow my progress over the 24 hours. All details on how to watch the ‘Swing-a-thon’ will be on the websites”.
“I will start singing at 6pm on Friday 5th March 2021 and finish at 6pm on Saturday 6th of March. I will be doing this at Mulino restaurant in Urmston, socially distanced behind glass, and I hope that if you are in the area, and passing by, you will drop a pound or whatever you can afford into my collection box and don’t forget to give me a wave!”
