Prince Philip,Duke of Edinburgh has passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle aged 99.
A statement was posted on Twitter conforming his death saying “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
Prince Philip was born in Corfu on 10 June 1921, growing up he went to a school in France, he came to a school in the UK in 1928 and stayed with his grandmother.
His mother Princess Alice of Battenberg did not have contact with Prince Philip as she struggled with a mental health issue, his dad moved to Monte Carlo.
Later on he joined the armed forces from 1939-1952, he served in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Marines in which he became a general.
Prince Philip married Princess Elizabeth (The Queen) on 20 November 1947.
This man started life in several places, and settled down in the UK, he achieved so much and gave his all for the UK whilst in the armed forces, a brave man, who battled to the end, and one many people will miss.
