Trafford Council to take tougher action to deter fly-tippers

Fly-tipping on Chapel Lane in Partington

Trafford Council has said they will take tough action on fly-tippers and on those who litter in the borough.

Fly-tipping has been a big problem in Trafford and it costs the council a fortune to clear up so they have increased fixed penalty notices for fly tipping from £200 to £400 and littering from £100 to £150.

If you are caught fly-tipping you could also be prosecuted which could mean you could be out of pocket by much more.

The council has an advanced CCTV system that shows 4K quality images, even in the dark you will not escape detection! It works using flat bed antennas that connect to the control room.

We have seen some big fly tips during the pandemic in the Partington area and we have seen pictures of problems in Stretford and Old Trafford, it is a disgrace whoever dumps rubbish and makes the borough look a right mess, it also causes vermin which brings disease.

Environment officers will issue on the spot fines for people littering, if they see and more importantly prove you spat out chewing gum or throw away a cigarette you will be fined £150.

If you witness anyone fly-tipping you can now report them to our fly tipping hotline on 0161 912 4152.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

“Trafford Council believes it is wrong to throw litter on the floor and if we catch you, we will come down hard on you. We have taken the opportunity of increasing our fines for littering and fly-tipping and hope this will deter people from being irresponsible.

“We are passionate about ensuring our neighbourhoods are clean and attractive places to live in, and will not tolerate littering. We want to ensure Trafford remains a beautiful place and will do everything we can to ensure this.”
