Old Trafford: Bomb Squad called out as residents of a block of flats and a primary school evacuated

Police and GMFRS (Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue) were out in numbers around a block of flats on Chester Road in Old Trafford at around midnight last night 28 April 2021 after they found suspicious items.

Due to those items being dangerous police then taped off a wide area of Chester Road and City Road and called in the bomb squad to have a look, around 40 residents were told to evacuate and a nearby school whilst the bomb squad got to work.

Buses were diverted including Partington bus 255.

We can tonight confirm the scene has been lifted as the area has been declared safe and there is no wider threat to the community,

Chief Inspector Lee Parker, GMP’s Critical Incident Manager, said: “We understand that this incident will have caused some concern in the community but I’d like to reassure them that following extensive searches and a thorough investigation there is no wider threat to the public.”I’d like to thank everyone for their patience throughout the day and anyone concerned can speak to my officers.”
