Partington Social Club operated for decades and whilst it had problems from time to time the venue was popular with locals until one day disaster happened.
The landlord of the newly refurbished club had done a fantastic job of improving the establishment, until someone torched it during one mad evening and ruined everything, the club was so badly damaged it could not be saved, the clubs doors were shut and the inquest began.
Time elapsed and the establishment rotted away, watching on as people went past day by day, until out of the blue it had one last bit of action, the doors were back open and a film production team came in and a new series called Traces was partly made inside and outside of the club.
Ironically it was a fire in the programme that helped give the social club one last breath, after a couple of weeks of fame the clubs doors were once again closed, and its fate sealed when workmen came along months after and bulldozed it all, whilst some people did not bother with the place, it stood for decades, it was part of the furniture of Partington and history gone, more importantly another establishment had gone forever.
In its place will be a housing development yes! another one! although this time on brownfield site and that if anything must seem like a crumb of comfort for a village that will soon be in chaos.
