Police are appealing for information after a man aged 62 was punched by a man riding an electric scooter on Bridgewater Canal tow path near to the bridge at Park Road.


The incident happened at around 11.20am on 4 January 2022 where the elderly man was walking with his partner and a man on the scooter punched him to the ground, the man who is described as in his late teens or early 20’s made off in an unknown direction.

As a result of the punch the elderly man has suffered what has been described as severe facial injuries and is being treated in hospital.

The man on the scooter is further described as being skinny, around 5ft 7ins tall with light brown hair, we was wearing a black tracksuit, he had with him a small cross body bag that has been seized at the scene.

Police are now investigating and no one has been arrested.

Detective inspector Helen Bagnall said: “This was a shocking unprovoked attack in broad daylight, and this kind of violent behaviour wont be tolerated.

“”We’re following a number of lines of enquiry and looking through CCTV, but there were a number of witnesses in the area at the time and we’re keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything, recognise the male from the description , or have CCTV or DashCam footage that could help.
