By Wilf Dooley (Trafford MV)

The disrupted nature of the 2021/22 Rugby season continued for Trafford MV as opponents New Brighton called the fixture off just 2 hours before kick off much to the dismay of MV’s players and spectators alike.

This leaves Trafford with just one last League game which falls at the end of the month at Tyldesley. Throughout Rugby Union and sport as a whole the legacy of Covid has lingered on as the absence of sport form peoples life has meant many have lost the habit of engaging in active, physical sport at weekends with time and commitment being focused elsewhere.

This weekend there was still plenty of rugby to watch as the Men’s 3rd XV played their final game of the season losing 29-45 to a well organised and hard running Broughton 1st XV.

Trafford MV Women’s team also played at MacPherson Park with Oldham Ladies as the opposition. The MV ladies put in a good performance and came away 36-19 winners.

MV’s Women’s Rugby has grown very nicely over the last couple of years and is now providing a sporting and social interest for many females in the borough – and the invite is out there for more to get involved and join the Club. For info message wilfdooley@virginmedia.com

Over the next couple of weeks the focus at Trafford MV changes as Cricket opens its doors for the sound of leather on willow to be heard.

This weekend the players had a preseason work party to get the covers, sight screens, boundary ropes, etc cleaned and ready for play. New players are very welcome to come and join us – we will be fielding 5 adult teams plus an under 11’s junior team. Again drop us a message on the address above and will get back in touch.

Trafford MV are currently working on plans for next season as the Club will celebrate it’s Centenary year following its founding in 1923, the Club will also celebrate it’s cricket sections 75th anniversary.

The Club would love for people that have been involved with Club over it’s many years to get back in touch, help us celebrate, recount our memories and look forward to the next 100 years of local amateur sport at Trafford MV Rugby Football and Cricket Club.
