Families in Flixton are set to benefit from a £60,000 funding boost from Trafford Housing Trust (THT) which is helping families to access food and presents this Christmas.

The grant has been awarded to local charity The Toy House, and will help to cement their position as a local hub, ensuring people can become more independent and offering services for families and individuals of all ages.  They will also run warm rooms during the winter months.

A further grant earlier this year from THT, part of L&Q, provided practical support for families during the summer holidays.  This support included food vouchers and school uniforms.  Once again this winter, The Toy House is ready to provide families with food vouchers, and volunteers are getting ready to wrap presents gained through donations of toys and gifts to give to families for their children.

Lesley Fraser, Vice Chair of The Toy House, said: “We have been supporting families in and around Flixton for over 40 years, and we recognise that offering help and support at Christmas makes a huge difference.  We are very grateful to Trafford Housing Trust for their funding: without them we could not offer our services or support to the people who need it most.”

Zoe Taylor, Communities Manager at Trafford Housing Trust, said: “We understand that Christmas can be challenging for a lot of families, and particularly this year with the cost of living crisis.  Providing funding to The Toy House will help to bring a little bit more Christmas cheer to families and youngsters this year.”

The Toy House has been a popular place to visit since it was established in 1981, and works in partnership with families, schools, grandparents, childminders, groups working with disabled adults plus other charities and groups to ensure children and adults develop to their true potential.
