Northern urging parents in Manchester to save money in 2023 by investing in an Under 16 Education Season Ticket

Northern is urging parents across Greater Manchester to spend less money on their child’s commute to school in 2023 – by investing in an Under 16 Education Season Ticket.

The train operator has teamed-up with upwards of 124 secondary schools and university technical colleges across the length and breadth of its network – including Beech House School (Rochdale), Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College (Trafford), Cheadle Hulme High School (Stockport), Chetham’s School of Music (Manchester), Turton High School (Bolton) and the UTC Media City (Salford).

The special season ticket offers their students up to 75% off the normal adult fare, which on one route in Greater Manchester is worth as much as £421.75 per year.

Under 16 Education Season Tickets offer unlimited travel between two stations and are valid seven days a week. As such, they can be used at weekends and during the holidays – not just the 195 days per year that schools are open.

Northern’s new timetable has now come into effect and all customers, especially those who have made regular journeys on the same train times, are advised to check online journey planners before they travel to ensure their service operates at the same time and calls at the same stations. Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with nearly 2,000 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
