The annual Trafford 10k running event got the go ahead despite a huge sinkhole opening up on Covershaw Lane near Partington.

Reports that a sinkhole had been spotted meant roads coming from Partington into the country lanes were closed yesterday (2 March) including Moss Lane close to Cross Lane Park.

Roads reopened early this morning for the running event although the section of road where the sinkhole is has been sectioned off.

The sinkhole was fairly small in comparison with others seen however had traffic continued over it the hole would have got much worse and the road would have been closed for a few days to allow workmen to fix the issue.

The section of road where the sinkhole appeared is in a shocking state, workmen had already been to patch the worse of the potholes however the surface is still dangerous for cyclists who are still having to navigate dangerously into the other lane.
