Residents across Trafford are invited to explore the borough’s parks, waterways, and neighbourhoods this May, as the GM Walking Festival comes to the borough with a programme of free, group-led events.
Co-ordinated by Greater Manchester Moving, the Active Partnership for the city region, the festival sees groups, charities, individuals, and many others put on free, group-led walks throughout National Walking Month.
With hundreds of different group-walks to choose from, you can search on the GM Walking Festival website for walks based on distance, difficulty level, proximity to public transport, accessibility by wheelchair, buggy-friendly walks, and routes close to cafes and pubs.
Trafford’s diverse landscape, from the Manchester Ship Canal to Sale Water Park and Dunham Massey, makes it a fantastic walking destination. This year’s festival theme, ‘Celebrating Connected Communities’, highlights how walking connects people across Trafford’s varied communities.
Trafford’s 2026 festival walks include:
- Timperley Trundle: Chews Health: Monday 18 May: 10:00
- Old Trafford Green Trail: Love Old Trafford: Saturday 23 May: 13:30
- Sale Water Park and the Bridgewater Canal: Manchester and Salford Ramblers: Thursday 28 May: 18:30
All walks are free and open to everyone. Search for Trafford walks at https://gmwalking.co.uk/festival-routes/
“This May we’re encouraging everyone to get walking and wheeling and explore their local area, discovering new places to walk, socialise, and have fun. There’s something for everyone this year – come and join us.” says Louise Robbins, Strategic Lead GM Walking
