Smoke from fires at Dovestone Reservoir seen over Trafford

Moorland fires for the past couple of days and gusty winds has seen smoke ending up over large parts of Greater Manchester including Trafford.

The fire allegedly started by some young people setting off fireworks near Dovestone Reservoir, Oldham where sadly one boy died.

Emergency services came to the scene and firefighters tried to put out the fire which took hold and with the wind it was hard for them to contain it, smoke billowed down towards the Manchester area on a strong easterly wind.

YouTubers doing live broadcasts from Manchester Airport could see the smoke during yesterday afternoon, and much of Trafford eventually ended up with a smoke haze and smells that lasted the day and night.

Our sister channel N4TXTV has some footage from Sinderland Lane, Dunham Massey where the fires could be seen for miles around heading out towards Warrington and may have ended up even further due to the brisk wind.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue told local people and those under the plume of smoke to keep windows and doors closed, and the message is very clear not to be setting off fireworks or leaving BBQs lit on moorland, throwing cigarettes lit is also another way for a huge fire to take hold.

Be responsible and we can all enjoy the amazing scenery of the hills, its one of the best places to visit on any day but during the summer months more so this one you need to take extreme care.

With no rain in and around Manchester predicted for this week and beyond with the heatwave continuing although slightly cooler this week things could get worse.
