An Altrincham Grammar School for Boys pupil who trains at Sale Dojo has achieved international success after winning Gold at the World Karate Federation (WKF) Youth League in Poreč, Croatia.

Kaito Hawkins, aged 13, claimed the U14 Kata title on 5 July 2026, producing a series of outstanding performances against some of the world’s best young karate athletes to secure the gold medal.

The WKF Youth League is one of the most prestigious competitions in world karate, attracting elite competitors from across the globe. Winning a Youth League title is widely regarded as one of the sport’s highest achievements for young athletes and is often compared to winning Wimbledon in tennis.

Kaito’s victory was made even more remarkable by the determination he showed throughout his journey. Just two weeks earlier, he had suffered defeat to the same opponent at an international event in Poland.

Undeterred by the setback, Kaito returned stronger and more focused, overcoming that opponent in Croatia on his way to winning the gold medal.

The achievement reflects years of dedication, hard work and disciplined training at Sale Dojo, as well as Kaito’s commitment to continuous improvement at the highest level of international competition.

By standing on top of the podium in Poreč, Kaito not only secured one of the biggest titles available in youth karate but also demonstrated the resilience, character and sporting excellence that have made him one of England’s leading young kata competitors.

This outstanding achievement is a proud moment for Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Sale Dojo, and the wider local community.
