The Tollgate to undergo a major transformation, closing temporarily on 27 July as it prepares to relaunch on 19th August under the new sports concept, Grandstand

The Tollgate is the ultimate pre-match pub, bustling with fans and a friendly atmosphere. A favourite with Manchester United fans, the pub will undergo a £400,000 transformation with new features designed to deliver a stadium-style experience on every visit.

The refurbishment will include the installation of market-leading technology, including a new giant HD screen and multiple HD screens throughout the pub, a state-of-the-art sound system, and flexible tiered seating to guarantee a great view of the action.

The outdoor area will also be refurbished, with new TV screens installed, and locals will be able to order through the all-new Marston’s ‘Order & Pay’ app to ensure they never miss a minute of the action.

The Tollgate will also be decorated with local sports memorabilia and is calling on the community to share photographs and items to help celebrate the achievements of local sports stars and teams, past and present.

Pub Partner, Michael McLoughlin, said: “We are so excited about the plans to re-open as a Grandstand pub. We know our locals are sporting mad and can’t wait to be able to offer them the best possible experience when they can visit us again.

Located in the heart of Old Trafford, the Tollgate is a traditional sports pub perfectly positioned for sports fans and visitors alike. Directly opposite Trafford Bar Metrolink station, the pub is packed on matchdays with fans enjoying a pre-match pint and the bustling atmosphere before every home game.

Just a five-minute walk from Old Trafford Cricket Ground and ten minutes from Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, it’s the perfect spot to soak up the electric atmosphere.

The pub is also conveniently located just a short drive from the Trafford Centre, one of the UK’s largest shopping and leisure destinations. With over 200 shops, restaurants and attractions to explore, visitors can round off a day of shopping by rewarding themselves with a drink or catching the latest fixture at the Tollgate.

Once reopened, the pub will show all key sporting fixtures, including football, rugby, cricket, tennis, F1, darts, horse racing and more. Regulation dartboards and pool tables will return alongside new competition leagues and free-to-play recreational sessions.

A new range of bar food will be introduced, perfect for half-time and sharing amongst larger groups. The ‘Match Day Menu’ will feature hand-held bites such as chicken wings, nachos, and burgers. The Tollgate has also refreshed its range of drinks, with all draught beers available in 2-pint cups.

Local sports teams will be able to apply for a ‘Black Card’, giving them access to exclusive offers, endless fries on team nights and rewards for celebrating wins at their local.

The Grandstand concept follows industry research* revealing that 8.5 million consumers have watched live sport in pubs, with 86% of fans preferring sports pubs for their atmosphere, better screens and sound, and the chance to connect with friends and family.

Marston’s has selected the Tollgate for the Grandstand transformation because of its strong passion for sport and the local community. The refurbishment will create an exciting new proposition for sports fans from Manchester and beyond.

The Tollgate closes on 27 July and will reopen on 19 August with a brand-new look.
