The Red Arrows, who were at the Southport Air Show yesterday (30 Aug), decided to cancel their participation due to poor weather conditions and, much earlier than expected, flew over Manchester on the way back to base.
They came over Trafford heading towards Manchester City Centre and back to where they were based, many residents saw the aircraft while others could only hear them, the nearer to them you were the noisier it became and the odour of aviation fuel was very strong.
Aviation fans doing livestreams from Manchester Airport also caught the action as they could be seen further west with a red, blue, and white trail, this was a one off occasion not to be missed, however due to the earlier time and no real information as to the exact location, it was luck more than anything that you were in the right location at the right time.
Manchester does have many military aircraft coming over nearly every day mostly at high altitudes where they can only be heard, sometimes Chinook helicopters visit Barton Aerodrome and other RAF helicopters can be seen although again it’s just luck you will see them over Trafford.
Having the world famous Red Arrows coming over though was an amazing experience and they will hopefully be back again one day with better coordinates for those who are interested and want to get some footage.
