Cruel Distraction Theft In Urmston Leaves An Elderly Women With No Cash And Her Wedding Ring Stolen

An elderly women had her purse stolen in the Eden Square Shopping Complex in Urmston on Oct 25 sometime between 3.40 and 4.40pm.

The purse contained her wedding ring and a quantity of cash.

It is believed the 82-year-old woman was distracted by the offender by pointing to items on the shelves, he then took her purse, it was only when the elderly women went to pay at the till for what she needed that she noticed her purse had gone.


Police Constable Luke Dearing of GMP Trafford Borough said:” This was a cruel distraction theft where the offender has targeted a vulnerable lady and stolen her purse from inside her handbag.

“Not only has she lost an amount of money, but she has also lost her wedding ring, which is obviously of great personal value to her.

“I am appealing to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV still images to please get in touch, as we belive speaking with him could allow us to make significant progress with our investigation.”
