A serious collision occurred today in a car park at Withington Hospital, two people both women were taken to a nearby hospital for life-threatening injuries, both have now died.
At around 2pm today March 7, two women one aged 44 and the other 49 were knocked down and later died after a Ford Focus car collided with them and other pedestrians at a Withington Hospital car park, the entire area was closed off as officers worked out what had happened.
An 89-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving, he is currently in custody.
Senior Investigating Officer Sergeant Lee Westhead from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit for GMP said: “My thoughts go out to anyone affected by this tragic incident.
“An investigation has commenced to establish the circumstances.
“We are in the very early stages of the investigation and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicle before hand, to contact my team as soon as possible.”
