Man aged 80 from Urmston hospitalised after thugs robbed and ransacked his home

An 80-year-old Urmston man has been hospitalised after two men barged their way in and ransacked his home

Shortly before 9pm on August 9 , police were called to Acregate, Flixton to reports of a robbery at a house.
It’s been reported to officers that two men knocked on the man’s door and, as he opened it, they burst into his house shouting “take me to the money” and “where is the money?”

The two offenders then dragged the 80-year-old upstairs to the doorway of the bathroom where one of them hit him on the head and the other, who was carrying a machete, struck him to the kneecap.

After ransacking his house for money, the offending duo left in a black Volkswagen Golf, which was driven by a third person, displaying MV66 UXZ, which officers have determined is a cloned registration plate.

Witnesses report the car was last seen a short time after the break-in on Crofts Bank Road in Urmston driving erratically and at speed.

The 80-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital but was subjected to a number of injuries including fractures to his spine, face and jaw.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

One of the men is described as around 6ft tall, of slim build and was wearing a black hooded tracksuit top with white drawstrings and black skinny jeans. He wore his hood up so his face could not be seen.

The other man is described as around 5ft 8-9ins, of stocky build with short strawberry-blond hair, which was shorter at the back and sides. He had a short, well-manicured beard and was wearing a black puffer coat, black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with three stripes to the knee and elasticated ankles. He was also wearing black Nike trainers.

The driver of the Golf is described as slim with light brown, short hair, which is styled with a parting to one side, all of the men are described as white.

Detective Constable Gray Wilton of GMP’s Trafford Borough, said: “These people have forcefully and aggressively barged their way into a man’s home, compromising his safety and security.

“We need to find these people and bring them to account. They have left a man with serious injuries and have robbed him not only of cash but of his confidence in his own home.

“I need people who have not yet contacted us but saw the car in the area at the time to get in contact with us. Or, if you saw men matching these detailed descriptions or believe you know they were in the area around the time of the incident, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 7525 quoting reference number 2056 of 9/08/17 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
